Obituary


Vance Kolb, 49, of Clarion passed away July 16, 2012 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Memorial services for Vance Kolb will be held at 7:00  PM on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Ewing Funeral Home, 602 North Main Street, in Clarion with Fr. Paul McManus and Pastor Bill Kem officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. 

Visitation will be held prior to the service on Thursday, July 19, 2012 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 602 North Main Street, in Clarion.

Vance was born at Lemoore Naval Air Station, in California on November 1, 1962 to Donald and Mary Ann (Clemensen) Kolb.  Vance graduated from Cherryvale High School in Kansas in 1980, and started working construction as a millwright.

Vance was united in marriage to Elaine Hammen on March 19, 1988 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion.  They were blessed with three beautiful daughters, Kelsey, Kenzie, and Vanessa who were the love of his life.  Prior to moving to Clarion in 2005, Vance and Elaine lived in Polk City.

Shortly after Kelsey was born, Vance was diagnosed in emergency surgery with Crohn’s disease.  Due to the severity of his illness, he was unable to work outside of the home for several years.  He recently was able to work for Ag Waste Services, as an animal waste distributor.

Vance enjoyed dancing, singing, watching sports, and coaching softball.  He was an avid fisherman and hunter and was very passionate about them both  Vance was well respected for his leadership and advice he had to offer.  He will be remembered for his strong morals, great stories and his contagious laugh.

Vance is survived by his wife, Elaine and his daughters Kelsey, Kenzie, and Vanessa of Clarion.  His parents, Don and Mary Ann Kolb of Independence, Kansas; brothers, Donnie (Judy) Kolb and Rocky (Kelly) Kolb of Wichita, Kansas; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
