Obituary


Velma Marie Cook, 77, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 1995 at the Kanawha Community Home.

Velma was born on January 26, 1918, in Stilson, Iowa, to Ira and Ava Dell Martin Zeigler.  She attended country schools.  Velma was united in marriage with Donald Elson Cook on March 9, 1938 at Kanawha, Iowa.  The couple made their home on the same farm until Donald's death.  After Donald's death, Velma moved into town.  The couple owned and operated the Cook's Lunch Wagon, catering to farm sales in the North Iowa area for over ten years.  The couple loved to attend horse shows around the area.

Velma was a member of the United Methodist Church, a lifetime charter member of the United Methodist Women and the Women's Country Club.

Velma is survived by two sisters: Vera Babcock of Corwith; Verle TerHark and her husband, Tom of Kanawha; one brother: Arthur Zeigler and his wife, Ruby of Kanawha; two sisters-in-law: Mrs. Elmer Zeigler of Kanawha; Mrs. Loren Cook of Kanawha; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three brothers, Cecil, Elmer and Ervin.
