Obituary


Vera Marie (Maddick) Abbas, 93, of Kanawha, left to meet her Lord peacefully Saturday, October 6, 2012, at the Kanawha Community Home.

Graveside services, per her wishes, will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at 1:00 PM at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha with Pastor Tim Rieckhoff-Faris officiating.

Vera was born February 21, 1919 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of James and Hazel Maddick. They later moved to Kanawha.

She was baptized in the Methodist Church and attended Kanawha schools. On September 5, 1936 she married Clarence Abbas and they began farming South of town. They had one son Larry.

In her younger years she enjoyed sewing and crocheting, and coaching girls softball.   Later in life she loved collecting antiques especially dolls, keeping town history and traveling the United States, England and Europe gathering information on family history. She helped start the Labor Day Celebration in Kanawha. She is survived by her son Larry and his wife Kathleen, three grandchildren, Kurt, Kristen, Nicholas and their spouses and children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 70 years, twin sisters Arline and Darline and sisters Vivian and Iliah.
