Vernon Virgil Gray, 71, passed away Friday, February 14, 1992, at his home in
Kanawha, Iowa.
Vernon, the son of Arnold and Sadie (Huisman) Gray, was born May 11, 1920 on a
farm near Titonka where he attended the Titonka country schools. He served with
the United States Army during WWII, then returned to Titonka.
On November 22, 1946 he was united in marriage with Iola Rippentrop at Ramsey
Reformed Church near Titonka. For three years the couple farmed near Buffalo
Center and for 34 years they farmed near Corwith. In 1984 they retired and
moved into Kanawha.
Mr. Gray was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Kanawha where he
served as Elder, Deacon, Sunday School teacher and catechism teacher. He was a
member of the Severson American Legion Post #77. He also served on the Corwith
Elevator Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Mark who passed away December 9,
1988 and one brother, Richard.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Iola Gray of Kanawha, Iowa; two sons: Donovan
and Lana of Artesia, California and James and Ruth of Grand Rapids, Michigan; a
daughter-in-law, Glenda Gray of Escondido, California; seven grandchildren:
Velaine, Shannon, Derek, Lindsey, Anthony, Marcy, and Danica; three sisters:
Arlene Rafdal of Titonka, Iowa; Lois and Marvin Behrends of Tumwater,
Washington; Dorothy and Meint Huesman of Titonka, Iowa; four brothers: Lester
and Ilene of Buffalo Center, Iowa, Alvin and Irene of Chili, Wisconsin; Lloyd
and Sharon of Rockford, Illinois and Larry and Kathleen of White Bear,
Minnesota.
