Vernon R. Hansmeier

Vernon R. Hansmeier, 79, of Crystal Lake passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Homestead Assisted Living in Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services for Vernon Hansmeier will be held on, Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 10:30 AM at Crystal Lake United Methodist Church, 215 South Summit Avenue in Crystal Lake with Pastor Les Green officiating. Burial will take place at Crystal Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 25, 2016 from 4:00-6:00 PM, at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.

Vernon, the son of Harry and Luise (Pfluger) Hansmeier, was born December 19, 1936 in Forest City, Iowa.  He grew up in the Crystal Lake area and attended school in Crystal Lake.  He lived in Crystal Lake until 1956 when he moved to Waterloo where he was employed at John Deere.  Vernon later returned home to the Crystal Lake area to farm the family farm.

Vernon loved collecting antiques, gas engines, lamps and furniture.  He traveled all over to attend auctions; one time he went to an auction in Canada and returned with a pickup load of treasurers.  He also had a great love for animals.

Vernon is survived by three children: David (Patty) Hansmeier of Forest City, Carmen Hansmeier of Colorado, and Wayne Hansmeier of Forest City; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister Mary (John) Ree of Burt; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Viola and Evelyn.
