Obituary


Viola Reineking age 98, of Latimer, Iowa, passed away Friday May 6, 2005, at the Franklin General Nursing Facility in Hampton, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 14, at 10:30 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Latimer with Rev. Martin Lorenz officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Latimer. Visitation will be Friday, May 13, 2005 from 5 to 7 PM at Ewing Dugger Helgeson Funeral Home in Latimer.

Viola Louise Caroline Lisette Schomburg was born on August 16, 1906, in rural Franklin County, the daughter of William and Bertha (Rodemeyer) Schomburg. She was baptized on September 16, 1906, and confirmed on March 20, 1921, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where she was a lifelong member. Viola attended school in Franklin County and graduated from Latimer High School in 1925. She then attended Ellsworth College in Iowa Falls and earned her teaching degree. She taught in a rural school near Latimer.

On October 4, 1934, Viola married Fred C. (Fritz) Reineking at St. Paul’s Lutheran parsonage in Latimer. They made their home in Latimer, where Viola was a homemaker. She taught Sunday school for many years and was a member of St. Paul’s LWML. She also worked as a cook at St. Paul’s Lutheran School for several years. Viola enjoyed reading, gardening, and spending time with family.

Viola is survived by her sister, Lucile Kenning, of Latimer; a sister-in-law, Pauline Schomburg, of Indianola; a niece, Savilla Younge, of Troup, TX, who was raised with her; local nephew, Robert (Joyce) Schomburg, of Hampton; local niece, Jolene (Reynold) Bullis, of Latimer; and numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fritz, in 1982; her parents; four brothers-Raynor, Louis, Lester, and William; and one sister, Irene Rathmann.
