Obituary


Viola M. Eliason, 83 of Kanawha, passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at the Kanawha Community Home in Kanawha.

Funeral services for Viola Eliason will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Kanawha Lutheran Church in Kanawha with Pastor Janelle Siffring officiating; burial will be at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East Second Street in Kanawha, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Viola Marie Eliason, the daughter of Edward and Marie (Eenhuis) Eekhoff, was born November 25, 1927 on a farm near Britt Viola attended school in Kanawha, and graduated from Kanawha High School.  After graduation, Viola worked at the Sweet Shop and for the Norway rural telephone company.

On November 28, 1947, Viola was united in marriage to Donald Eliason.  The couple made their home in Kanawha where they farmed and operated the Case Implement in Kanawha until Donald’s retirement.  Viola also worked at the Kanawha Community Home for more than 20 years.

Viola was a member of the Kanawha Lutheran Church.  She enjoyed crocheting, watching the Atlanta Braves, Minnesota Vikings, and Iowa Hawkeye Basketball team.  She also collected roosters.

Viola is survived by her sons, Dean (Jannean) Eliason of Crystal Lake, and Jeffery Eliason of Mason City; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; her sisters, Edna Peterson of Corwith, Mildred Engh of Kanawha, Janet (Dorance) Baack of Clear Lake, Ella Josten of Ventura, Esther (Raymond) Helps of Garner, Ida Eekhoff of Kanawha, Marie (Chris) Bunk of Renwick, Lois (Douglas) Ward of Cedar Rapids and her son-in-law Larry Cockrell of Kanawha; along with numerous other nieces and nephews, other family members, and friends.

Viola is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald, her son Dale, her daughter Virginia, and twin sisters Kathy and Sally Jo in infancy.
