Viola Mae (Steenlage) Holck

Viola Mae (Steenlage) Holck, 93, of Britt, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital.

A funeral service for Viola Holck will be held on Monday, April 21, 2014 at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church, 707 4th Street SW, in Britt with Pastor Robert Dodge officiating.  Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation for Viola Holck will be held on Sunday, April 20, 2014 from 3:00 until 5:00 PM at the Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West, in Britt and will continue one hour prior to services on Monday. 

Viola Mae (Steenlage) Holck was born May 26, 1920 to John and Emma (Hauptly) Steenlage in Britt, Iowa.  She attended country school, and on September 17, 1940 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Holck.  They had one daughter, Shirley.

The couple made their home near Britt and farmed.  In 1951 they moved into town.  Viola cooked and cleaned at the Britt Country Club later on in life.  She always enjoyed flower gardening.

Viola was a member of the Britt United Methodist Church and the Britt VFW Auxiliary.

Viola is survived by her daughter Shirley (Robert) Irwin of Hampton; granddaughter Sheri (Steve) Kistler of Crystal Lake; great grandchildren, Brooke Irwin, Nicholas Kistler, and Andrew Irwin; great-great granddaughter Darrah Dalgliesh; sisters-in-law, Edith Drabek of Garner and Evelyn Buffington of Mason City; along with many nieces and nephews.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth in 1988, grandson Kenneth Irwin in 2012, sisters, Imogene Zrostlik and Phyllis Peck, and brother John “Jack” Steenlage, Jr.
