Violet M. (Siekmeier) Christenson

Violet M. (Siekmeier) Christenson, 89, of Crystal Lake passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at her home in Crystal Lake.

Graveside services for Violet Christenson will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Crystal Township Cemetery in Crystal Lake.

Refreshments will be served at Violet’s home in Crystal Lake following the graveside service.

Violet Marie was born December 21, 1927 to Lawrence and Gladys (Cottington) Siekmeier in Forest City, Iowa. She was raised in rural Crystal Lake, and attended schools in Crystal Lake, graduating from Crystal Lake High School. Following graduation, Violet received nursing training in Iowa City.

Violet returned to the Crystal Lake area, where she met Calvin Christenson. The couple married October 19, 1946 at the Crystal Lake Methodist Parsonage, and made their home in Crystal Lake. To this union, five children were born. The family later moved to Minnesota in 1956, Illinois in 1969, and back to Crystal Lake in 1974.

Violet loved her family, and enjoyed visiting them, wherever they may be. She was fond of traveling, which led her to deliver Winnebago R.V.’s around the country along with Calvin. A trip to Alaska was one of her travel highlights.

Violet is survived by her children, Craig (Shirley) Christenson of Roseville, Minnesota, Terry (Raymond) Greevers of Hollister, Missouri, Sue Christenson of Crystal Lake, Hal (Shirleen) Christenson of Blaine, Minnesota and Dave (Shirley) Christenson of Moline, Illinois; grandchildren Michelle (Craig Bolton) Christenson of Brooklyn, New York, Kate Christenson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Tanya (Greg) Lewerenz of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Andrew (Lauren) Greevers of Bloomington, Minnesota, Vanessa Greevers of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Tammy (Vu) Tran of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Anja (Matthew) Christensen of Blaine, Minnesota, Kaleb Christenson of Minneapolis, Danielle (Shannon) Shayne of Fountain, Colorado, Donny Kiddoo of Milan, Illinois, Hollie (Chrissy) Kiddoo of Moline, Illinois, and Jeramy Christenson of Rock Island, Illinois; great-grandchildren Kedir Bolton, Daniel, Henry, Barbara and Hazel Lewerenz, Tristan, Roman and Georgia Greevers, Zoey and Olliver Christensen, Laura (Alan) West, Mallory Shayne, Ronan Kiddoo, and Kayle and Kelsey Short; great great-grandson Calvin West; siblings Jerry Hobbs, Gretchen Peck, Lucy (Gunnar) Nielsen and Larry Siekmeier; along with numerous other family members and friends.

Violet is preceded in death by her parents, husband Calvin in 1996 and brother Norman Siekmeier.
