Violet (Smith) Pergande, 88, of Clarion, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2023 at
the Kanawha Community Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Ewing
Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
Violet Marie Pergande, the daughter of Frank and Ada (Beitz) Smith was born
April 20, 1934 on her family farm outside of Bancroft. Violet grew up in Algona
and had fond memories of working at the movie theaters there.
On April 27, 1953, Violet was united in marriage to Robert Schaffer. To this
union, six children were born and later the couple divorced. She then married
Ernest Pergande on November 20, 1978 and resided in Renwick before moving to
Clarion. Violet worked various jobs over the years including Farmer's Exchange
Restaurant in Holmes, running Jeri's Café in Renwick, a second hand store in
Clarion and did business cleaning in surrounding communities. Most of all
Violet loved taking care of her family. She loved when everyone was together
and cooking her famous meals for them. She enjoyed playing cards, cribbage and
ten penny.
She will be remembered for her feistiness, witty sense of humor and her
contagious laugh.
She is survived by her children Shari (Rich) Lewellyn of Cedar Falls, Jim
(Cindy) Schaffer of Clarion, Allen "Rick" (Susan Sherman) Schaffer of Clarion,
Robert "Bobby" (Ronda) Schaffer of Clarion, Christine (Danny) Thompson of
Goldfield; daughter-in-law Cindy Schaffer of Algona; grandchildren Andrea, Gary,
Nelle, Andy, Austin, Joshua, Alex, Chad, Scott, Allison and Michael; 24 great
grandchildren; sisters-in-laws Carolyn Smith and Sandra Smith; brother-in-law
Raymond Hanson along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, (2nd set of parents): Raymond and
Margaret Crandall, husband Ernie Pergande, son Steven Schaffer, grandson Tony
Thompson, brothers: Martin and Eric Smith, sisters: Alice Kollasch, Roberta (Dee
Dee) Hanson and Mary Smith (in infancy).
