Obituary


Virgil Meyer, 86, of Galt passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at his home.

Memorial Services for Virgil Meyer will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion with Pastor Bill Kem officiating.  A private family burial will take place at a later date.

Visitation for Virgil Meyer will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Sunday.

Virgil Earl Meyer, born November 24, 1927, the oldest son of Henry and Erna (Davin) Meyer in Freeborn County, MN. He attended country school six miles north of Blairsburg IA and graduated 1946 from Blairsburg High School, well known for his baseball and basketball talents. He married his best friend, Shirley Ione Cormaney on February 23, 1947 in Hampton IA and farmed in Wright County the rest of his life. Virgil passed away at his home Tuesday, June 3, 2014 on the family farm. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley (1983), siblings Lois, Clair, and Sterling, parents Henry and Erna Meyer, and son-in-law Bob Haskin (2013).

An avid hunter and fisherman, Virgil shared his love and lore with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom he was very proud, plus the youth of Wright County through his years of volunteering with the Wright County Gun Club and the Hunter Safety Program. He enjoyed watching the wildlife flourish on his wetlands (NRCS).

Family to cherish his memory: daughters, Linda Haskin of Des Moines IA, Joan (Darwin) Anderson of Clarion IA, and son, Lance (Carol) Meyer of rural Blairsburg IA; grandchildren Ann (Chad) Wilde, Bryan (Lisa) Russell, Sara (Jeremy) Abbas, Adam (Johanna Vega) Russell, Angela (Rinzou) Haskin-Wilkerson, David (Tara) Haskin, Aaron (Kari) Haskin, MSgt/USAF Jessica (MSgt/USAF Rob) Moore, Abigail (Brad) Church, Natalie (James) Zinnel; step-grandchildren Lisa (Matt) Hockemeier and Brent (Jean) Anderson; great-grandchildren Amanda & Jacob Wilde, Tanner & Reed Abbas, Gage Behnkendorf, Rafer Russell, Karina Torres, Piper & Nikko Russell, Riley Haskin, Jaxon Haskin, Emily, Kaitlyn, & Zachary Moore, Easton & Emerson Zinnel; step-great-grandchildren Zach, Tommy, & Emmy Hockemeier and Bryce Anderson; sisters-in-law Lorine Meyer, Juliana Meyer, Barbara Cormaney; and numerous nieces and nephews.
