Obituary


Virginia “Ginger” Lee Cockrell, 59, of Kanawha passed away Friday, December 21, 2007 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A memorial service for Ginger Cockrell will be held Thursday, December 27, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Kanawha Lutheran Church in Kanawha with Janelle Siffring AiM and Pastor Lee Nelson officiating.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, December 26, 2007 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Home, 118 E. 2nd Street in Kanawha and one hour prior to services at the church.

Ginger Lee Cockrell, the daughter of Donald and Viola (Eekhoff) Eliason, was born on August 9, 1948 at Belmond, Iowa.  She was baptized and confirmed at the Kanawha Lutheran Church and attended the Kanawha Community Schools.

On December 5, 1964 Ginger was united in marriage to Larry Cockrell at the Kanawha Lutheran Church.  In this union two sons were born, Anthony Dean and Richard Lee.

Ginger was a telephone operator for Norway Rural Telephone Company.  She and her husband were engaged in the service station and bowling alley in Kanawha for 15 years.  Ginger has also worked at the Kanawha Community Home for the last 15 years.

Ginger’s greatest joy in her life was her family.  She enjoyed camping and fishing with her grandchildren.  Ginger loved watching and attending the Minnesota Viking Games with her family.  She also enjoyed her time working with the elderly at the Kanawha Community Home.

Ginger is survived by her husband of 43 years Larry; son Tony, his wife Annette and grandchildren Adam and Abby; son Richard, his wife Maria and grandsons Steffen and Justin; her mother Viola Eliason; two brothers:  Dean Eliason, his wife Jannean and family; Jeff Eliason, his wife Jamie, a special niece Jordan and a special nephew Jacob; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Eliason; brother Dale Eliason; and her grandparents.
