Obituary
Vivian Mabel Wicks, 83, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 1998, at North Iowa Mercy Health Center in Mason City, Iowa.
Vivian, the daughter of James "Jack" and Hazel (Kale) Maddick, was born November 30, 1914, in Des Moines, Iowa. She moved with her parents to the Kanawha area at an early age, graduating from Kanawha High School. Vivian attended normal training at the State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Herbert Wicks in 1934 at Fort Dodge, Iowa. The couple moved to a farm near Kanawha where they made their home before moving into Kanawha. They moved to various communities including Duncan, Thor, and Crystal Lake while her husband was employed as an elevator manager. The couple then made their home for 30 years in Fernald, Iowa when they chose Kanawha to retire at.
Writing letters was a natural are for Vivian. She also enjoyed gardening and baking.
Vivian is survived by her husband, Herbert, four children: Bernadine "Berny" Burke of Tucson, AR; Deanna Rae Heintz of Cedar Rapids, IA; Leif Wicks of Fullerton, CA; and Joan Housh of Urbandale, IA; two sisters: Iliah Sorenson of Kanawha, IA; Vera Abbas of Kanawha, IA; and nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and infant twin sisters.
