Obituary


Vivian L Pletcher, 89, of Britt passed away Friday, February 16, 2018 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Funeral services for Vivian Pletcher will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at United Methodist Church, 707 4th Street Southwest in Britt with Pastor Robert Dodge officiating. Burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, February 20 at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Vivian Louise Pletcher, the daughter of Henry and Amanda (Helm) Riekena, was born January 29, 1929 at home in Woden, Iowa. She attended Forest City Schools. Before getting married, she candled eggs at the hatchery in Forest City.

On July 31, 1947 she was united in marriage to Don Pletcher in Albert Lea, Mn. The couple made their home in the Britt area and lived in the same house for 62 years. Through the years, Vivian worked with Don at various businesses, including Don’s Krispy Shop, Don’s Timber Inn, Don’s Hob Nob and Don’s Koffee Kup.

Vivian loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed her yearly Memorial Day celebrations with her siblings and enjoyed time spent in the garage watching the world go by. She also spent endless hours working on word search books. Vivian loved watching Polka Party Saturday nights on RFD-TV.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Britt.

Vivian was survived by her children, Linda Hildman, John Pletcher (Darlene Weber), Connie Pletcher, Bonnie Vavrik all of Britt, and Ron (Lilia) Pletcher of San Jose, California; 8 grandchildren, Scott (Bonnie) Gilbert, Eric (Adrian) Eisenman, Todd (Erika) Hildman, Michelle (Raymie Luse) Hildman, Kristie (Ryan Leerar) Crowder, Daniel Pletcher, Nicholas Pletcher, Karina Pletcher; 7 great-grandchildren, Autumn Poncin, Cole Hildman, Christopher Ramos, Hailey Crowder, Logan Brown, Kasey Brown and Aidric Eisenman; and one great-great grandson, Blake Brown. 4 siblings, Kenny (Cy) Riekena of Sun City, AZ, Lorraine (Shelly) Bohn of Mason City, IA, Janice Marshall of Austin, MN, Marilyn (Tommy) Haley of Ham Lake, MN, Sister-in-law, Carol Riekena of Racine, WI, Brother-in-law George Schmidt of Garner, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Don in 2005, daughter Diane, her parents Henry and Amanda Riekena, sister, Arlene Schmidt, brother, Vernon Riekena, infant brother, Leroy, infant sister, Donna; son-in-law Bill Vavrik, sister-in-law Mickey Riekena, brother-in-law Jim Marshall, and father and mother in-law Lloyd and Florence Pletcher.
