Obituary


Willard “Bud” Glade, age 94, of Dows passed Sunday, March 1, 2015, at Franklin Country View Care Center in Hampton.

Willard was born to John and Minnie Holland Glade on August 4, 1920 in rural Franklin County. He graduated from Dows High School in 1938. He attended North Central Bible College in Minneapolis for 2 years. Willard served with the 24th Division of the Army during World War II in the Philippines and Japan. Willard graduated from Augsburg College in 1948 with a degree in history. While attending Augsburg he met Wanda Watne. They were married on September 11, 1948 in Eagle Grove.

Willard owned and operated Glade’s Market for 25 years. He then served as an inspector for the Iowa Department of Inspection and Appeals until retiring in 1988. He was very active in his community serving on the Dows City Council, the Wright County Conservation Board and the Wright County Public Health Board. Bud loved to fish and took many fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada with family and friends. Another highlight was flying to Washington D.C. as part of the Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight trip for World War II veterans in 2010. Willard was an active member of Abundant Life Chapel. He was a deeply religious man who lived his faith in all aspects of his life. He was a member of Gideons International since 1976. He and Wanda joined a Minnesota church group on three mission trips to Mexico.

Bud is survived by Wanda, his wife of 66 years; four children, Kathie and husband Bruce Dormanen of Minneapolis, MN, Lori and husband Steve Olinger of North Oaks, MN, Paul and wife Julie of Cedar Falls and Dave of Morrison, CO; seven grandchildren, Ryan Glade and wife Elizabeth, Caitlin Glade, Drew Dormanen, Marcus Dormanen and wife Hannah, Matthew Olinger, Kelly Olinger and Michael Glade; one great-grandchild Lydia Glade. In addition, he is survived by two sisters Dorothy Fraser and Glennavon Parriott.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Ione Erickson, Wilma Dorr and Marjorie Stover.
