Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East 2nd Street in Kanawha, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

William Schreur, the 8th child of Bert & Reka Schreur, was born August 17, 1922 on the family farm south of Kanawha. He was baptized and made profession of faith in the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church. Bill played softball in high school as an outfielder and graduated from Kanawha High School in 1941. After high school, Bill & his brother, Herm, farmed brother John's 80 acres while he was in the service. Bill also ran Schreur Hybrid Seed Co. with Herman.

On June 1, 1945, Bill married Maylene Tesdahl & they had 4 daughters and 1 son, Linda, Deanna, Kathleen, Marilyn and Mark. During their married life Bill farmed and ran a custom corn shelling business. He served both as an elder & deacon in his church. In the summer, Bill played in the church softball league, pitching for Kanawha CRC.  He also served as a board member in the early planning of Kanawha Christian School. Bill sang in the Schreur Quartet with his brothers George, Garrett, and Herm.

As a tribute to our Dad – he had a great work ethic, was an avid sports fan, was very generous, had a delightful sense of humor, was tenderhearted & not ashamed to show emotion, especially when he spoke of his love for his Savior.  Both Dad & Mom were dedicated to their children & grandchildren & made numerous trips to Washington and also Wisconsin, Illinois and Missouri.

When Dad was asked how he wanted to be remembered, he responded “I am a sinner saved by grace & I loved being a farmer!”

Dad was longing & ready to go “home” to meet Jesus & have a heavenly family reunion. We miss him so but rejoice that he is in the presence of his Lord & Savior.

Bill is survived by his children: Linda (John) DeVries, Deanna (Lyle) McDougle, Kathy (John) Kajfas, all of Mount Vernon WA, Marilyn (Kevin) Bosma of Nixa, Missouri and Mark Schreur of Kanawha – 17 grandchildren, Ron, Annette, Travis, Nicole, Tamara, Shawn, Troy, Tova, Kellen, Keturah, Keaton, Calvin, Matt, Andrew, Leslie, Kari, and Gena – 27 great grandchildren with another one on the way, one sister, Helen, & her husband George Eekhoff, brother-in-law Darrell Dibbon, sister-in-law Betty Schreur and numerous nieces & nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Maylene, of 64 years, parents Bert & Reka Schreur, granddaughter Elizabeth VanderVeen, great grandson Ethan Hartzog, brothers William, George, Garrett, John, Herman, infant sibling, and sisters Jennie and Mary.
