Obituary
Robert E. “Bob” McNamara, age 92, of Belmond passed Sunday, May 24, 2015, at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Robert E. McNamara will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday May 30, 2015 at the St Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond. Burial will take place in the St Francis Cemetery near Belmond. Military graveside honors will be provided by the Belmond Honor Guard.
Robert (Bob), the only child of J. Francis and Mary (Roth) McNamara, was born on February 7, 1923 in Richland County North Dakota. In April 1936 he moved to Iowa and graduated from Belmond High School. Prior to joining the U.S. Navy in 1944 he was in the Civilian Conservative Corps. On January 19, 1945 he was united in marriage to Mona Schooley in Port Blakely, WA. Most of their married life was spent in New Jersey where both were employed by the Federal Aviation Agency. After their retirement, they moved to the McNamara Family farm south of Belmond. Bob and Mona shared a passion for traveling, square dancing, and being involved in church activities. He also loved to fish, especially in Alaska, and doing crossword puzzles.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mona; four children Marilyn Carlson, Richard, Patrick and J. Michael McNamara, all of New Jersey. Six grandchildren; Michelle, Eric Collette, Jessica, Patrick II and Kristina; and seven great-grandchildren; Brandon, Jake, Tiffanie, Amanda, Caleb, Ruth and David.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Jennifer, a half-sister and four half-brothers.
