Obituary
Arlene Emma Everett, age 73, of Latimer, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2004, at the McAllen Heart Hospital in McAllen, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 14, 2004, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Latimer with Rev. Marvin Lorenz officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Latimer.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, February 13, 2004 at the Ewing Dugger Willim Funeral Home, 320 East Street in Latimer, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Arlene, the daughter of August and Emma (Pralle) Dohrmann, was born in Marion Township on September 17, 1930. Her parents died when she was young so she and her brother were raised by their aunt and uncle, Ferdinand and Wilhelmine Pralle. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she also attended Parochial School. Arlene graduated from Concordia High School and College located in Seward, NE. After college she taught for 3 years in Lutheran Schools in Kansas.
In 1953, Arlene married Dean Borcherding and the couple farmed the family farm east of Latimer until his death in 1971. She married Byron Everett in 1975 and moved into town, off of the family farm, in 1978. Arlene taught in the Hampton School District for 11 years. After teaching, she worked as a secretary for Curtis One Thousand in Mason City until retiring in 1990. Arlene and Byron took their first winter trip to Texas in January of 1991, and continued to do so until her passing.
Arlene enjoyed music, singing, playing in jam sessions, flower gardening, cooking, camping, playing cards and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Latimer, and a member of the Lutheran Layman’s League and a Camping Club.
Arlene is survived by her husband, Byron; 5 children, Larry (Sheryl) Borcherding of Hampton, Duane (Norma) Borcherding of Westerville, OH, Sharon Smith of Lake Lotawana, MO, Kevin (Carol) Borcherding of Latimer and Greg (Sheryl) Borcherding of Hampton; 3 step-children; her brother, Aaron (Miranda) Dohrmann of Reese, MI; 18 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Dean, in 1971; her half-brother, Frederich (Mueller) Dohrmann; an infant brother and an infant son.
