Arthur "Art" H. Stockseth, 90, of Belmond, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. Funeral services for Art Stockseth will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 27, 2017 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Belmond with Reverend Jim Gochenouer officiating. Burial will be at St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation for Art Stockseth will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 PM on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Arthur Henry Stockseth, the son of Harry and Martha (Odland) Stockseth, was born on December 17, 1926. He was raised on the family farm northwest of Belmond, attended country school and graduated from Belmond High School. Following graduation, Art continued to farm alongside his father, a career that spanned many decades. He was proud to be awarded Century Farm certification at the Iowa State Fair several years ago. On June 17, 1950, Art was united in marriage to Viola Umstead in Eagle Grove. The couple was blessed with two children, Raymond and Kathy. Art was a lifelong member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed. In earlier years, Art enjoyed playing cribbage, and he and Viola enjoyed trips to Washington D.C., Florida, and Texas. Art was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching sporting events on TV or listening to them on the radio, often both at the same time! He was seldom absent from coffee time at the co-op, where he enjoyed visiting with his fellow farmers. When the season came each year for lutefisk and kumla dinners, Art would load up the car with family and enjoy. Art loved spending time with his family and attending family events. He will be remembered for his sage advice, his genuine, matter-of-fact conversations and for being a sincere and steadfast role model to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Art is survived by his son Raymond (Betty) Stockseth of Belmond; daughter Kathy (Tom) Bonjour of Goodell; three grandchildren: Andrea (Clint) Christians of Pocahontas, Susan (Mark) Potvin of Princeton, Minnesota, and Amy (Alex Mealy) Stockseth of West Des Moines; six great-grandchildren: Cale, Cooper, Caroline and Caitlyn Christians, and Noah and Simon Potvin; one sister Lois Stockseth of Belmond; and one brother Merlin Stockseth of Belmond; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Viola in 1995; sister Ruth Olson and brother Richard Stockseth.
