Obituary


Clair C. Peterson, 84, passed away Monday, September 4, 2000 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Clair, the son of Reuben and Evelyn (Gifford) Peterson, was born January 9, 1916 in Britt, Iowa.  He graduated from Britt High School in 1935 and attended Britt Junior College for one year.

Clair was united in marriage to Muriel Kinden in Bethany, Missouri on December 31, 1940.  The couple made their home in Des Moines for a short time.  Clair was inducted into the United States Army in May of 1942.  Following his discharge, the couple moved to Britt, where Clair was employed by Kreitinger Hardware and Oakes Plumbing and Heating.  He later was employed by Winnebago Industries in the maintenance department, retiring in 1978.  He was then employed at Hancock County Memorial Hospital for a time.

Clair was united in marriage to Sarah Arla Legler on January 27, 1990 at Lake Okoboji.  The couple made their home in Britt.

Clair was a lifetime member of the VFW; he was also a Silver Star Senior Citizen in Britt.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Garner.  He was a trustee at the First Lutheran Church in Britt for five years.

Clair is survived by his wife, Sarah, one daughter, Judy Fillman and her husband, Russell, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three step-daughters: Dee Etta Hollantz and her husband, Mike of Garner, Roseann Boehnke and her husband, Mark of Garner, Arla Murry-Juhl and her husband, Steve of Mason City; two granddaughters; eight step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; three sisters: Edna Eden of Britt, Verda Stratton of Britt, RuBee Schroeder and her husband, Emery of Britt; one brother Raymond Peterson and his wife, Charlotte of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas and one sister-in-law, Jeanne Peterson of Forest City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Muriel, and two brothers, Lewis and Calvin.
