Obituary


Dennis L. Zuehl, 89, of Britt passed away Monday, January 17, 2022 at his home.

Funeral services for Dennis Zuehl will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022 at 10:30 AM at the Britt United Methodist Church, 707 4th Street South West in Britt, with Pastor Robert Dodge officiating.

Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt with the Britt Ceremonial Honor Guard providing military honors.

 Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2022 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt, and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Dennis Leon Zuehl was born on August 26, 1932 to LeRoy and Helena (Austin) Zuehl on the family farm south of Britt.  He attended country school in the Stilson area and graduated from Britt High School in 1950.

Dennis entered the United States Army on June 10, 1953, serving as a Clerk Typist during the Korea War.  Following his Honorable Discharge from the Army he was employed by Packson Lumber in Des Moines before returning home to farm.

Denny was united in marriage to June Wilson on June 2, 1953 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They made their home on the family farm outside of Britt, which was recognized was a Century Farm in 2001. Denny was a lifelong farmer and loved farming, raising hogs and cattle alongside his son, Doug and his grandchildren.

He enjoyed cooking, his family fish fry and meatloaf were some of his specialties. He went on many fishing trips to Canada with June and also his fishing buddies, many of whom are his casket bearers.  He enjoyed watching westerns, Gunsmoke being one of his favorites, and listening to Willie’s Roadhouse.  Denny also enjoyed going to the Hillside every Friday night and dining with friends and special friend Blanche Chizek.

Denny was a member of the United Methodist Church in Britt and a lifetime member of the American Legion.

Denny is survived by daughter Cynthia Zuehl of Britt and her  three children: Jennifer Smidt and her son Jordan Brown, Brandy (Alex) Fisher and their two daughters Ella and Khloe, and Jeremy Zuehl; son Douglas (Kathy) Zuehl of Britt and their son Jake (Rachael) Zuehl and their three children Kane, Kale and Kia; brother Richard (Ruth) Zuehl; sister Patty (Roger) Smith, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife June, parents LeRoy and Helena Zuehl, grandson, Brad Zuehl, sister Karen Geddes and her husband Dean.
