Obituary


Elvera Augusta Showalter, 79, passed away Sunday, March 1, 1992 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Iowa.

Elvera, the daughter of Alfred and Gerda (Svahn) Kellberg, was born June 9, 1912 at Troy, Idaho.  She graduated from high school at Moscow, Idaho.

On January 3, 1931, Elvera was united in marriage with John Leonard Showalter at Moscow.  In 1940, the couple moved to Spokane, Washington, then returned to Moscow.  They attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis.  In 1945, the began serving as missionaries in Bolivia, South America with the World Mission Prayer League.  Mr. Showalter passed away in 1968 at Santa Cruz, Bolivia in South America.  In 1974, Elvera returned to the United States and was employed at a Missions Office in Minneapolis.  She retired in 1978 and moved to Crystal Lake where she made her home with her son, Jim.

Elvera was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake and Women of Life at the church.  She enjoyed embroidering and quilting.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include two sons: Jim and Patricia of Crystal Lake; Jerry and Mary of Minneapolis, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; Jon, Janet, Joel, Jeff, Jordan, Jay and Dean; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Helen Anderson and Eva Rathbun, both of Moscow, Idaho; one brother, Layton Kellberg of Pomeroy, Washington.
