Obituary


Fred W. Schoby, Jr., age 75, of Latimer passed away Saturday, April 23, 2005, at his home.

Funeral services for Fred Schoby, Jr. will be Friday, April 29, 2005 at 10:30 AM at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Latimer with Pastor Gene Bryant officiating. Burial will take place at Marion Center Cemetery in Latimer.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 29, 2005 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Ewing Dugger Helgeson Funeral Home, 320 East Street, in Latimer and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.

Fred was born on January 15, 1930 to Fred, Sr. and Ruby (LaRose) Schoby in Algona. He received his education in the Algona schools and was an active member of the Methodist Church in Algona.

Fred farmed with his dad for a while before getting into construction work. He was foreman on I-35 for 5 years which is when he met June Speulda. The couple was married on January 15, 1975 which happened to be Fred’s 45th birthday.

Fred and June bought the Latimer Café in 1976 and ran it until 1989 when they sold it. In 1992, Fred got seriously ill and had to retire. On March 13th of this year, he was taken to the hospital and released on March 21st. He remained at home with his wife June of 30 years, until his recent passing.

Fred is survived by his 9 children: Jim (Linda) Schoby of Algona, Diane (Jerry) Hinzman of Great Falls, Montana, Bill (Bev) Schoby of Mason City, Becky Schoby of Denver, Colorado, Randi Peterson of Peabody, Kansas, Steve (Hann) Schoby of Clarksville, Tennessee, Dave (Marie) Schoby of Whittemore, Freddy (Vicky) Schoby of Great Falls, Montana and Liz (Lanny) Jones of Osceola; and also 9 step-children: Carlene Hanson, Carol Wagner, Evelyn Speulda, Betty Deemer, Sharon Appleton, Marilyn Willms, Edith Brass, Sheryl Saxton and Milton Murphy; 28 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 5 sisters: Jone Sweers of Britt, Marjorie Schnath of Flagstaff, Arizona, Dorothy Hartiman of New Hope, Minnesota, Linda Becker of Sun Valley, Arizona and Cathy Munson of New Hampton; as well as several nieces, nephews and other family members.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Shane Schoby.
