Obituary
Gene Doughan hard working farmer, infamous fisherman, popcorn connoisseur, and field rock collector, passed away on August 18, 2003 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa.
Gene, the son of Raymond and Marie (Yegge) Doughan, was born in rural Britt on April 14, 1925. He grew up on the family farm and attended Corwith Schools where he graduated in 1942. He served the U.S. Army overseas during WWII and returned home in 1947. On August 2, 1947 he was united in marriage to Bonnie Hiscocks and they made their home on a farm near Corwith. Gene and Bonnie moved to Dexter, Minnesota in 1962 where they continued to farm and raise their three daughters. Since retirement in 1998, he and Bonnie spent their winters in Mesa, AZ and summers at their cabin in Minnesota.
Gene was very active in his community. He served as a past member of the board for the Sargeant Co-Op, Pleasant Valley Township, and the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hayfield, MN. He was also a member of the Hayfield American Legion. Gene enjoyed fishing, dancing, and playing the harmonica.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie; three daughters, Julie (Wayne) Courtney of Byron, MN, Lindy (Norm) Hagstrom of Austin, MN, Kelly (Kevin) Monroe of Raytown, MO; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Donna (Raymond) Nelson of Clear Lake, IA; one brother, Alan (Frances) Doughan of Britt, IA; one sister-in-law Marcie (Dale) Doughan of Algona, IA; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Marie Doughan; two brothers Larry and Dale Doughan; and two sisters Charlotte Doughan and Shirley Ann Sallade.
