Obituary
Helen M. Haupt, 91, of Hampton, died Dec. 15, 2014, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Coulter. Pastor Stanley Peterson will officiate. Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery at approximately 1 p.m. on Monday.
Helen was born August 8, 1923 to Walter and Hannah Jensen Peterson on a farm south of Coulter. Helen grew up in the Coulter-Latimer area. She graduated from Latimer High School in 1940. After graduation, she attended UNI where she received her teaching certificate. She taught in rural schools in Hampton Township.
Helen married Bernard Haupt on December 28, 1947. Two daughters were born to this union. Helen continued her teaching in Goodell and Belmond for 42.5 years until her retirement in 1989.
Helen's lifetime passion was teaching. She also loved to play the piano, listen to music, share jokes, work on crossword puzzles, travel, go on small field trips with her siblings and spend quality time with her family.
Helen is survived by her daughters Joann Haupt of Cedar Rapids and Sharon (David) Ross of Ely; two granddaughters; sister Elaine (Halvor) Egede of Hampton, and sister-in-law Edna Peterson of Latimer.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Kenneth and sister Mildred.
