Jeanne Carole Green was born December 23, 1947 to William and Anna (Pfeffer) Green in Algona, Iowa. She was the 9th of 10 children, and was raised on a farm outside of Wesley, before moving to Britt at age 7.
Jeanne was united in marriage to James Cink on June 19, 1965 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt. The couple were blessed with four children, Debra, Darla, Darrin and Derek.
Jeanne was a homemaker while the kids were young, then began working at Smidley in Britt for 6 years, followed by 18 years at A & W and most recently, at Dollar General in Britt, where she was honored for 20 years of service this past November. She always created a family environment with her co-workers and often served as a mentor to them.
Jeanne was a professional garage sale shopper, along with friend and neighbor Jan Leerar. For the past 20 years, she and Karen Douglas have been comparing who got the best and bought the most. The ladies took this business very seriously, but had fun along the way as well. She collected various antiques, including some furniture, depression-era dishes and A & W memorabilia.
Jeanne loved her family, and attended as many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities as she could. Jeanne began researching the Green family genealogy years ago, and traced the family back several centuries. This research culminated with a trip to Ireland with her surviving siblings 12 years ago.
Jeanne also enjoyed cross-stitching and quilting, and made a quilt for each of her children and grandchildren. She was an excellent cook, known for her potato salad recipe and her spaghetti and meatballs. At Christmas, her favorite holiday, she made 20 varieties of cookies and bars for friends and family to enjoy.
Jeanne was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt.
