After high school, Jere enlisted into the Unites States Army. He served his country actively, as a Military Policeman, for two years being stationed overseas in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1955 while remaining in the Army Reserves for an additional six years.
On October 12, 1954 Jere was united in marriage to Verla Janes at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. This loving marriage brought forth three children, Barbara, Brian and Brenda.
The couple ran the coffee shop in Britt before they moved to Lower Lake, California. There, Jere was employed with the county for seven years before the family briefly moved to Colorado. In 1972, the family moved to Britt where they had since resided. Jere worked for Hancock County for many years.
As a family man, Jere was excited to retire from the county to take care of his grandchildren full time. He also kept busy with his woodworking skills tackling all projects put in front of him. His hobbies included, solving puzzles, building model airplanes and tending his garden.
