Obituary
Jerry Peterson, 80, of Britt, passed away at Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.
Visitation for Jerry Peterson will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt. Private family burial will take place at a later date.
Jerry Lee Peterson was born September 11, 1934 to Carl and Emma (Anderson) Peterson in rural Britt. He was raised and educated in Britt.
Following high school, Jerry worked as a farm hand, where he met Marlys Weiland. The couple was united in marriage in February of 1953 in Mason City. To this union, four children were born.
Jerry worked at Decker’s meat packing plant in Mason City for 21 years. Later, he worked for Winnebago Industries in Forest City for 5 years and retired from Iowa Mold Tooling in Garner, where he worked as a welder for 18 years.
Jerry served in the United States Navy Reserves.
Jerry was a cowboy at heart. He loved horses, camping, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed gardening and searching for treasures at garage sales. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Jerry was known as a great storyteller. His friends always knew where they stood with him.
Jerry is survived by his children Danny (Karen) Peterson of Britt, Dale (Kelly) Peterson of Arnolds Park, Darin (Michelle) Peterson of Spirit Lake and Danise (Jason) Silber of Britt; grandchildren Angie (Rob) Gerdes, Jessi (Lea) Hans, Jared (Megan) Peterson, Beth (Mike) Tolliver, Cassandra (Chad) Chadwick, Onna Peterson, Grace Peterson, Tyler Silber and Taryn (Austin) Penning; 13 great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marlys in 2010, and brothers Clarence and John.
