Obituary
Leona Jeanette (Harringa) Peters, 85, of Britt, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.
Funeral Services for Leona Peters will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 15, 2015 at the Evangelical Free Church, 810 2nd Avenue Northwest, in Britt with Pastor Stan Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Friday.
Leona, the daughter of John and Lena (Bruns) Harringa, was born August 4, 1929 on the family farm near Titonka.
On November 24, 1950, Leona was united in marriage to Harry Ward Peters in Hope, Missouri. The couple farmed near Wesley until retiring in 1992. They moved to Britt in 1993. In 2010, Leona moved into the Britt Summit house where she resided until her death.
Leona loved to quilt, blessing her children and grandchildren with a variety of quilts by which to remember her. She also loved to watch birds at the feeders outside her window.
Leona is survived by her children: Gloria (Rick) Sobek of Kanawha, Donna (Glen) Flanigan of Wilmore, Kentucky and Gary (Darla) Peters of Wesley. Grandchildren: Scott Sobek, Stacy Langfitt, Stephanie Schisel, Shery Steenblock, Erin Cooper, Neil Flanigan, Alex Peters, Taylor Peters and Tony Peters, and 11 great grandchildren; her siblings: Magdalene Penning of Algona, Clarence (Marge) Harringa of Britt, Deloris (Harlan) Eekhoff of Britt, Shirley (Byron) Ruter of Kanawha, and Roger (Gail) Harringa of Clear Lake; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry Peters and her parents John and Lena Harringa.
