Obituary
Lester Paul Hill, Sr., son of John Wesley Hill and Mary Jane Worf Hill, passed away Monday, April 25, 1983, while working in his garden at his home in Mason City, Iowa. Lester was born July 10, 1900 at Irondale, Missouri and he was 82 years 9 months and 14 days of age at the time of his death.
Funeral service for Lester Hill, Thursday, April 28, 1983 at 1:30 PM at Calvary Alliance Church in Mason City with Rev. Philip Sorensen officiating. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.
Lester attended grade school in the St. Louis, Missouri area and in the early 1920's he moved, with his mother, to the Mason City-Clear Lake, Iowa area where he operated a car on the electric railroad between the two cities. In the late 20's he began to work as a farm hand for General Hanford McNider and in 1936 he began working at the Northwestern Portland Cement Co. until his retirement in 1965.
Lester was united in marriage to Hazel Powell on March 11, 1942 in Bethany, Missouri and together they regularly attended the Calvary Alliance Church in Mason City, Iowa. He served his country in World War II and was a member of the Mason City American Legion Post. Mr. Hill was a member of IOOF Lodge of Mason City. He enjoyed hunting and gardening as his hobbies. His life was centered around his family.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Hill, of Mason City, Iowa; three sons: David Hill and his wife Diane of Chaska, Minnesota; Earl Hill and his wife Marlys of Britt, Iowa; Richard Hill of Mason City, Iowa; two daughters: Hazel Hill of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Mary Beth Hill of Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Also surviving are five grandchildren, many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and three daughters.
