Obituary


Manley (Bud) Orvick, 83, of Britt passed away Monday, June 17, 2002 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Manley was born April 5, 1919, the son of Severt and Tena (Williams) Orvick at Goldfield, Iowa.  He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Hardy.  He attended Vernon Township Consolidated School graduating in 1936.  He helped on the family farm until he enlisted in the Navy serving in the South Pacific during World War II.

Manley married Anna Mae Indvik on December 1, 1949, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City.  The family moved south of Kanawha in 1961, where Manley worked for Wright County for the next 25 years.  He served as 4-H leader, custodian of St. John's Lutheran Church and cared for the Norway Township Cemeteries.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.  Retiring in 1984, they moved back to Britt in 1991.  Manley was currently a member of the First Lutheran Church in Britt.

Manley is survived by his wife, Anna Mae; three daughters, Twyla Curry and husband Les, Amboy, Minnesota, Diane Crane and husband John, of Norwalk, Minnesota, Sonya Brightwell and husband Ronnie, of Osawatomie, Kansas; one son Mark and wife Tracy, of Troy, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and one sister-in-law Anita Orvick of Denver, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Michael, one sister Stella, three brothers Howard, Thomas, and Wilmer and one niece Thelma Orvick.
