Pauline Catherine (Bierl) Hamilton, age 96, passed away at the Glencroft Care Center, in Glendale, Arizona on Wednesday, June 29, 2005.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Father David Beckman at St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion, Iowa on Tuesday July 5. Interment was in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Clarion.
Pauline was born March 17, 1909 at Elgin, Nebraska to parents Henry and Gertrude (Huelshorst) Schroeder. The family moved to the Carroll-Templeton area where she was raised and educated.
In 1928 Pauline married Albert Bierl of Templeton. To this union three sons were born. After farming in the Templeton area, in 1937 they moved to Cascade, Iowa and opened a Gamble Store. In 1940 they moved to Clarion and opened a Gamble Store. Pauline worked along side her husband in the store and did all the bookkeeping.
In 1954 they were proud to adopt a little girl, Mary Anne.
They sold the Gamble store to sons Vernus and Duane in 1960 and bought the Hi-Hatt Bowling alley which they operated until they retired to Phoenix, Arizona.
Albert passed away May 21, 1972. On October 13, 1973 Pauline married Fred Hamilton. Fred passed away January 13, 2004.
Pauline is survived by a son, Donald and wife, Darlene of Clarion; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Bierl of Sun Lakes, Arizona; son-in-law, Dave Steinkuehler of Dow City, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren, Michael, Michelle, Steven, Jamie, Mark, Dennis and Darren Bierl, Ramona Kotenbrink, Diane Adam, Darla Shawler, Debbie McDermott, Kim Jensen, Cozzette Sorrick, Terri Lynn Martin; twenty-three great grandchildren, Aaron, Joshua, Michael and Andrea Adam, Alyssa, Sydney and Savanna Shawler, Lucas and Cassandra McDermott, Heather Stemsrud, Amy, Kendall, Steven, Trinity, Hailey, Jessica, Devon and Madison Bierl, Joe Hyland, Madison and Chase Sorrick and Mackenzie and Logan Martin; three great-great grandchildren, Zachary and Alaina Stemsrud and Blake Bierl; and one sister, Marie (Schroeder) Schon of Springfield, Missouri.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Albert Bierl and Fred Hamilton; sons Vernus and Duane Bierl; daughter-in- law, Lynn Ann Bierl; daughter, Mary Anne Steinkuehler; five sisters, Julie Woerdhoff, Francis Wolterman, Margaret Chitwood, Florence Morgan and Loraine Schleisman.
