Ronald E. Olmstead

Ronald Eugene Olmstead, age 61, of Clarion, formerly of Goldfield passed away Friday, August 19, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 1:00P.M. on Tuesday August 23, 2005 at the First Lutheran Church in Clarion with Pastor Gary Boen officiating, with burial at the Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00P.M. on Monday August 22, 2005 at Ewing Dugger Helgeson Funeral Home 602 North Main Street Clarion, Iowa and one  hour prior to services at the church.

Ronald Eugene Olmstead was born September 23, 1943 to parents Harvey and Lila Olmstead in Webster City. He was raised and educated in the Webster City area. Ron married Katherine Pogge on February 14, 1974 in Russellville, Arkansas, to this union three children were born.

Ron worked as a police officer for 25 years serving in Clarion and then in Goldfield as Police Chief. He opened Ron’s Restaurant and owned and operated it for 14 years serving many family and friends in his establishment. He most recently worked for Juvenile Court Services.

He was an avid motorcyclist, loved to go camping, fishing, and taking trips to the Iowa State Fair. Ron enjoyed listening to music and spending time with family and friends and celebrating Halloween and New Years Eve.

Ron is survived by his wife of 31 years Katherine, his three children; Amy Olmstead of Cedar Falls, IA, Bryan Olmstead of Boone, IA, and Krista Olmstead of Clarion; two sisters, Linda Frost of Stratford, IA, and Karen Furman of Stratford, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Linda Olmstead.
