Obituary
Ruth DeWaard, 99, of Woden, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2017, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.
Funeral services for Ruth DeWaard will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Woden Christian Reformed Church in rural Woden with Pastor Joel DeBoer officiating. Burial will be at the Woden Christian Reformed Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 5-7 PM at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Ruth Amelia (Meyer) DeWaard was born on February 9, 1918 in Hancock County Southwest of Woden, Iowa to Rev. Dirk and Emma (Rotschafer) Meyer.
She was baptized and made profession of her faith in the Christian Reformed Church in which she was a lifelong member. She served her church as a part time pianist and Sunday School teacher.
She attended the rural school in Hancock County and graduated from the Woden High School in the year 1935.
On May 1st 1940 she was married to Adrian DeWaard at the Christian Reformed Church Rural Iowa. They were blessed with four children. They lived on several different farms in the community.
Besides helping out on the farm, she worked at the Britt Care Center for two years and at Great Western Products in Forest City until she retired in 1980.
In December of 1981 she moved to her home in Woden. She loved gardening, embroidering, working crossword puzzles, and sports.
Ruth is survived by her children Lois Mouw of Colton, South Dakota, Donald (Jean) DeWaard of Urbandale and Carol (Gary) Regnerus of Orange City; ten grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; special friends and neighbors Jeff and Brenda Stucki; sisters-in-law Hannah Mae Meyer and Lorriane DeWaard both of Britt; brother-in-law Henry (Josephine) DeWaard of Kanawha; along with many extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Adrian, her parents, son Robert, son-in-law Roger Mouw, four sisters and their spouses, Marie (Conrad) Limberg, Aletta (Harm) Eden, Esther (Edward) Limberg and one in infancy; five brothers and four spouses, John (Delia) Meyer, Paul (Mattie) Meyer, Edwin (Eva Ruth) Meyer, Daniel (Gladys) Meyer and Elmer Meyer; and sisters and brothers-in-law Mike (Louise) DeWaard, Gerrit (Grace)(Wilma) DeWaard, Jacob DeWaard, John (Elsie) Miller and Abe (Sereina) Holleman.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to the Woden Christian Reformed Church.
