Sonja Christine (Ahlstrom) Lobdell, the daughter of Stanley and Beulah (Trott) Ahlstrom, was born on June 24, 1949 in Belmond, Iowa. She was raised in Goodell and attended school in Meservey and Belmond. She graduated from Belmond High School with the class of 1967.
After graduation, Sonja attended Mason City school of cosmetology. She worked for Gen Suntken Beauty Shop before she opened Sonja’s Beauty Shoppe in 1979. She loved making people feel and look good retiring in 2018 due to health reasons.
Sonja met the love of her life Brett while bowling. The couple was married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua on July 2, 1979. They raised their family in Belmond and have resided here since.
In her free time, Sonja kept a very busy social schedule. She enjoyed going antiquing, auctions, playing cards and bingo. She volunteered countless hours to the VFW Bingo in Belmond and was an active member of the Belmond Methodist Church. She had an eye for quality items at flea markets, contributing to her collections, including Fenton Eggs.
