Obituary
Virginia J. Olsen, 83, of Britt, Iowa passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services for Virginia Olsen will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Britt Zion Church of the Nazarene, 195 2nd Street South West, with Pastor John Paulus officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 12, 2010 at the Columbus City Cemetery in Columbus City, Iowa.
Visitation for Virginia Olsen will be held on Friday, July 9, 2010 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West, in Britt and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Virginia Joyce (Henderson) Olsen, the daughter of J.C. Henderson and Hazel (Hurst) Henderson was born September 25, 1926 in Roswell, South Dakota at home on the farm. She attended school in Ogden, Iowa and graduated from Ogden High School. She continued her education at Central College in McPherson, Kansas for two years and Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois, graduating with a BA degree in Teaching and a minor in Art. She taught school for many years before marrying Kenneth R. Cutkomp on August 8, 1959. They settled in Columbus Junction, Iowa on a farm south of Columbus Junction. Virginia and Ken had three children, Anette Louise, Heidi Lynn and Timothy Ken. Ken passed away in 1968. In January of 1971 a mutual pastor friend introduced Virginia to Myrlen L. Olsen. On July 17, 1971 they were united in marriage in Ogden, Iowa. Virginia and Myrlen settled in Britt, Iowa on Myrlen's farm north of Britt. Virginia helped Myrlen on the dairy farm for many years until they retired from dairy farming in 1986.
Virginia accepted Christ at age seven and was active in the Britt Church of the Nazarene. She went on three Work and Witness mission trips with Myrlen. They traveled to Brazil, Kenya, and New York City. She was also a member of the Gideon Ladies Auxiliary. Virginia enjoyed crafts, drawing and painting in her spare time. She loved her family and loved being able to spend time with them and talk to them on the phone.
Virginia is survived by her husband, Myrlen of Britt, daughter Anette of Maxwell, son Tim of West Des Moines, nine grandchildren, Tod, Heather, Jeremy, Kate, Tiffany, Kenny, Samantha, Zachary, and Michael, eight great grandchildren Cole, Seth, Krista, Kayla, Charity, Jonah, Jabin, and Carter, a brother Bob of Asheville, North Carolina, sister Jeanette Larrew of Spokane, Wa, brothers-in-law Daryl, Erval and Bernie Olsen.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers George and Donald, sisters, Geneva, Doris and Lillian, her husband Kenneth and daughter Heidi Lynn, step-daughter Marlene and step-son Rodney.
Memorials will go to the Church of the Nazarene Parsonage Fund.
