Dear Ron and family My sister Jan just told me of Virginia’s passing, and I am truly sorry to hear about your loss. Virginia and I were in Kindergarten together, in all elementary classes, mid-school classes, junior high, and all high school classes together – except maybe home ec and shop. Like many of our classmates we saw each other every day and it became like family after many years. I still remember while we were in first or second grade, Virginia had a birthday party where she had invited both boys and girls. Going to her party, I was thrilled because I had made the social grade! I remember that she handed out little paper cups of candy to all of us; I guess I was very easily impressed in those days, but I still remember the party and was pleased that Virginia had invited me. I remember that we town kids would all walk to school no matter how cold or windy. Ron and the other rural kids got to ride on a bus to and from school. I also remember playing in the band and getting to travel to Mason City for marching band performances. We had a lot of pride playing in the band, making what we considered to be music. My folks left Kanawha before my senior year, so my mind’s picture of Virginia and you, Ron, is frozen in time when we were about 16-17 years old. But I always liked and enjoyed Virginia; I am happy to say she was one of my first friends growing up in Kanawha and I have very fond memories of Virginia! So sorry for the loss, Virginia always stood out in my mind from high school. She was brilliant, friendly and a great class mate. May God be with you as you grieve and live without her presence in your life. She will be missed.
