Dorothy May, age 94, of Kanawha passed away Friday, June 6, 2008 at The Kanawha Community Home in Kanawha.
 
Funeral services for Dorothy May will be held on Monday, June 9, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Kanawha with Rev. Cynthia Morrison officiating. Burial will take place at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.
 
Visitation will be held Sunday, June 8, 2008 from 3 to 5 pm at Ewing Funeral Home in Kanawha and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
 
Dorothy, the daughter of Dora and Fairfield Dean, was born January 19, 1914 at Renwick, Iowa. At an early age she moved with her family to a farm near Corwith, Iowa.
 
Dorothy graduated from Corwith High School in 1931.
 
She was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” May on February 5, 1935 in Goldfield, Iowa. The couple farmed near Kanawha unit 1975 when they retired and moved into their present home. Dorothy worked for Dean Hughes at the Café, Gladys Wilkie at the Clover Farm Store, and for Doc Henning at the Vet Clinic.
 
She was a member of the Methodist Church in Kanawha, the United Methodist Women, American Legion Auxiliary, the “Quilt” group, Federated Women’s Club, volunteered with Hospice, and the Kanawha Public Library and served on the Library Board for 35 years.
 
A highlight for Dorothy was being selected as the Grand Marshall of the Labor Day celebration in 2005.
 
She is survived by two daughters, Bona Dean Feller of Marquette, Judy (Tom) Nygren of Ankeny; six grandchildren, Chellney, Charles, Paul, Tony, Charlla and Pam; sixteen great grandchildren, a sister Darlene (Gerald) Brown of Angola, Indiana and a brother Edwin (Ann) Dean of McKinney, Texas.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
 
Memorials can be directed to the Kanawha United Methodist Church or the Kanawha Public Library.
